Rocking at The Royal Court
The Overtures @ The Royal Court, Liverpool - 24 August 2001

The Overtures are without a doubt one of the highlights of Beatle Week. Loud and proud from 'London Town', the guys hit the Royal Court stage wearing stylish 60's suits, white polo-neck tops and those cool winkle picker boots. The band's wonderful set had the audience downstairs dancing, and those seated in the balcony's clapping and stamping their feet to the beat! I was most impressed with the slide show, which the band had on display at the back of the stage. Consisting of 60's footage of the bands whose music they were playing, it was almost as thrilling as The Overtures band themselves.

During an evening packed full of highlights, several stood out for me - a number of Hollies hits, The Monkees' 'I'm a Believer', the breathtaking Stones classic 'Jumping Jack Flash', The Kinks 'All Day And All Of The Night', The Searchers' 'When You Walk In The Room' and the fantastic, unbelievably accurate 'Turn Turn Turn' (The Byrds). I'm convinced Keith Moon is living in drummer Steve Phypers, and the wonderful energy of 'Pinball Wizard' with Tony Skeggs' Townsend-esque windmill arm work - very cool! Would also like to say, nice to see Pascal back at the keyboards, even though it was only a brief appearance. The best song of the night for me has to be The Move classic 'I Can Hear The Grass Grow' which Den kindly dedicated to me, as well as mentioning our fellow TWILer's on Yahoo Groups!! Cheers Den!

To me, these guys are one of the best bands ever to play at Beatle Week and we are very lucky to have them perform throughout the week of the festival. The Overtures are not only a wonderful musical act but good friends. They have been very supportive of our magazine from the very beginning and we are proud to be able to include them!
