The Overtures 60's Tribute Show @ The Royal Court - Liverpool 25 August 2000.
The Overtures are without a doubt one of the highlights of Beatle Week. These guys are the Ultimate 60's rock n' roll band! I personally think its time that we had a change from Gary Gibson always headlining the week spectacular! Why not have The Overtures! They could provide us a The Beatles and 60s extravaganza show at the end of the week! What a party that would be… we could all dress up 60s style! Anybody else agree??
(hint to Bill Heckle!!) I went to see The Overtures three times during the week and it was a pleasure meeting the band and the crew! What great chaps and 60's fanatics they really are! The band really do kick some serious butts! On stage and they do it with such, skill and professionalism that you can't fault them in any way! How can you not like The Overtures live shows? Full of energy, enthusiasm, different styles and periods of 60s music! For us fans, that never lived the sounds of the 60s, these guys are a real treat!! They send you back to the time of pure rock n' roll and give us the wonderful sound of The Mersey Beats, The Who, The Kinks, Simon and Garfunkel, The Doors, The Hollies, The Beatles (of course) The Beach Boys…and lots more! Beat heaven!! One other point I have to make as a fan, I was surprised to find them on second bill to The Beats from Argentina! After The Overtures, The Beats show seemed shallow and lacking energy!! Everybody commented on this; The Overtures should have been on last!! I spoke to their drummer, Steve, on the Sunday night, before their Let It Be performance. He was concerned, "How can we follow The Fab Faux?" Guys, you sounded great! Let It Be, is one of my fave LP's by The Beatles, but I agree with you totally Steve, 60s music is the band at it's very BEST! If you have not had the chance to see The Overture's live and wonder what you are missing, then check out the Rocking Little Record section, where we have reviewed their new Live CD!!
