Biography: (Taken from the Beatle Week 2005 Programme)

The Overtures returned last year with a new line-up and took the crowds at the Pier Head by storm in their only Beatle Week 2004 show. This year they are back in their rightful spot at the festival where are one of the most popular and exciting bands.

Featuring Den Pugsley (vocals & bass), Steve Phypers (drums & vocals), Chris Skornia (keyboards), Jamie Cook (vocals & guitar) and Phil Evans (guitar), the Overtures have a repertoire of over 400 songs and a reputation to match. They have played numerous star-studded bashes including Elvis Costello and Diana Krall's wedding reception in 2003, which was attended by Sir Paul and Heather McCartney no less. This year they bumped into another Beatle-related celebrity at one of their private bookings - Pattie Boyd. Apparently the band had a quick discussion as to whether they should play any Beatles songs or not, and decided it would be daft for them to leave them out. The fourth song into the set was the first Beatles one - All My Loving, and who should be up on the dance-floor? None other than the former Mrs George Harrison herself! She danced for much of the first set and came to speak to the band in the break, when this photograph was taken.

The band will play at our Monday night Ringo's Bus Pass Party, where you'll be able to witness their spectacular sixties show that features music from the early 'Merseybeat' of The Beatles and The Searchers through to the 'surf' sound of The Beach Boys; the rhythm and blues of The Rolling Stones to the folk-rock of The Byrds and The Mamas and The Papas; the close harmony of Simon and Garfunkel to the psychedelic power of Jimi Hendrix. Whether you are a 'Hippie', 'Mod' or 'Rocker', as Sergeant Pepper says ... "A splendid time is guaranteed for all!"
