Close Encounters of The Faux Kind!
I first learnt
about the band in New York City in May 1999 on holiday. We were on the tube
going to visit The Statue of Liberty. I had my John Lennon T-shirt on and this
guy said to me, "You're a Lennon fan - that's great! You must see this Beatles
Band, called The Fab Faux. You won't be disappointed! Man, they are more than
great!!"
I asked him when they were playing, as we were ready to go!!! But it turned
out, the night of their concert we were leaving to visit Minnesota!!! So all
through my holiday I kept thinking about this band - The Fab Faux!!
So you see, even before I came to Beatles Convention, I knew of them and imagine my surprise when they walked on stage at The Royal Court Theatre!! (Gobsmacked was the word!) The guy on the train was right!! MORE than right!!
The Faux were everything I had imagined and more. The thing I love about them - they are all different characters and like The Beatles, they make one special band. Their talent is endless and their show is The Beatles in the 21st Century.
Like The Beatles themselves, I think The Fab Faux are a 'one-off'! A group of gifted, skilful musicians, and singers creating the sound of Lennon and McCartney that they never played live.
The Faux aren't 'being' The Beatles, or saying they are better! They are just fans playing the music of their idols and all they want to do is pay tribute to the music of Lennon and McCartney. Music that they never played live.
To me, the guys are great musicians and lovely blokes, they are in the world of showbiz back home, but that's their other life! When they come to Liverpool, they are just like us! Die hard fans who just want to be in the childhood city of one of the worlds most well loved rock bands - The Beatles.
Will, Rich, Frank, Jack and Jimmy, I still believe it was fate. I was meant to know you guys! Why of all the bands in NYC was I meant to hear your name? I'm so glad I did, and I can't believe that three years later, I know you all and I believe that fate introduced me to the nicest group of guys, who we at TWIL are proud to call friends.
