Lawrence 'Macca' Gilmour

Lawrence turns heads everywhere he goes, such is the similarity to Paul, and no doubt he will attract quite a bit of attention over the weekend. In October 1999, he attracted the attention of McCartney himself and was subsequently requested to 'double' for Paul in the promotional video for No Other Baby. He spent two days filming on location and even had a 'jam session' with the man. So next time you see that video, pay extra attention on the long-shots and you might spot Lawrence!

A fan of The Beatles since childhood, Lawrence made his Macca singing debut when he got up in a club for a laugh in the late 70's and sang 'Mull of Kintyre'. He made his first official public appearance as a Paul McCartney impersonator in 1993 on the television show 'Stars in their Eyes', and has gone on to carve a career as a Macca look-alike and impersonator.

Since last years Beatle Week Lawrence has toured Russia and the Ukraine playing to packed theatres in Kiev, St. Petersburg and Moscow. He also appeared on Russian Television several times and had the opportunity to see the sites where Paul McCartney himself had played just a few months earlier - the square in St. Petersburg and Red Square in Moscow; in fact the theatre Lawrence played at was directly opposite Red Square. The Russian fans went mad especially at the end of the show when Lawrence played Back in the USSR. Those Moscow girls really did knock him out! A real goose-bumps experience! Lawrence was even treated like the real McCartney at times enjoying a very warm welcome from the Russian Beatles Fan club which is headed by Russia's most famous Beatles fan Kolya Vassin, who is shown meeting the real McCartney on the new 'Live in Red Square' DVD.

Another highlight for Lawrence this year was performing again at the Back To the 60s show in Sweden hosted by Benny Carlsson. A great weekend that he is booked to do play again later this year.

Lawrence brings a new backing band to Beatle Week 2005, featuring Kev (bass), Big Bobby (guitar/synth), Neil (lead guitar/keyboards) and Alun (drums).
