Anniversary Beatles festival plan

THE 40th anniversary of the Beatles' Australian tour will be celebrated in Adelaide next year.

The Australian Major Events organisation will host the Australian Beatles Festival, a musical tribute to the Fab Four over the June long weekend.

It will feature tribute bands as well as jazz ensembles, choirs and concert bands and pop bands playing Beatles songs.

A large range of Beatles memorabilia will also be brought together including photographs from the 1964 Australian tour, rare archival footage and a display of fashions from the period.

Event organisers said Adelaide was renowned for giving the Beatles their biggest public reception in Australia so it seemed appropriate the city should host the anniversary event.

"The Beatles were the most influential band for whole generations and the Australian Beatles Festival will be a chance to re-live that experience," said director Steve Brown.
